The purpose of this housing concept is to support ‘temporary’ or ‘minimal’ living. It’s an opportunity to test the attributes of the area without committing to the expense and risk of building right away.
To reduce costs, yet provide the healthiest of atmospheres, this design distributes the potentially harmful aspects of a home into a shared ‘utility’ building. This shared building is in the center of a cul-de-sac to allow maintenance without disturbing the residential property. HVAC, computing, propane, natural gas, water purification, drains, and electrical panels are just a few things housed in this building. Subsurface conduits (referred to as tethers) connect resources to this utility building. This leaves the living space for living only allowing for a highly configurable setting.
The floor plan ‘aligns’ walls, shares walls and has a linear open space to allow for distancing the OLED display. Another option would to back-light a screen from the attached garage to further reduce exposure to electricity. The table in the open space can serve as a desk, an eating table, or a hobby table. The kitchen has pocket doors to reduce noise. The bathroom’s plumbing wall is accessible from the closet to reduce maintenance costs. The unit is heated via radiant hydroponic in-floor tubing. The garage is conditioned and is the primary point of entry. It also serves as a buffer to the equipment and laundry area. EHS sensitive people should take comfort in the separated laundering area. The remote refrigeration equipment is also in that pseudo detached area. The unit is fitted with POE (Power over Ethernet). This provides low voltage lighting and audio/visual. All standard wall outlets have remote circuit switches to allow for easy on and off. The stove is propane. The water heater is on-demand propane. There is another front closet for storage
Off the main area you’ll find the entry foyer, a kitchen, a generous walk-in closet, and a full bath. The full kitchen has dual pocket doors to isolate cooking should you be entertaining. The bathroom is housed with a shower as that is the preferred method of cleaning for elderly. All rooms are naturally lit. The design is a simple rectangle dimension-ed for easy Faswall assembly. It is a natural wood floor with the exception of the bathroom which is tiled. The ceiling is tongue and groove wood This is a studio with natural light and views to provide a soothing ambiance. Yet, offer low cost housing and very efficient heating/cooling.
The bathroom is handicap certified complete with natural lighting.
The kitchen has french sliding double doors for those entertaining circumstances where privacy is desired.
A heated one-car garage separates the electrical equipment from the living area. On the other side is a laundry room, office, and small area for required local HVAC.
An offfice / storage area also sits on the opposite of the garage. This options was, more or less, to accommodate a significant other which may require computing facilities.
